TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL PASSAGE

And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.

Hebrews 10:24–25

DEVOTIONAL

by Elder Chris Beltran

We often see the speck in someone else’s eye without noticing the log in ours. We are encouraged to stir one another to love and do good works and not whine and find fault amongst ourselves.

We can never find a perfect church until we find out that the person in the mirror is perfect, too. Even with plastic surgery, one can never actually be perfect. Like the lyrics of a song, if you want to see change happening, “I’m starting with the man in the mirror. I’m asking you to change his ways. If you want to make the [church] a better place, take a look at yourself and make that change.” Change starts with us first.

With all of the church’s weaknesses, mistakes, and failures, every congregation member should love it more because it is a place where followers of Christ belong. Some people will never have a sense of belonging. Some come to church regularly and even serve but have openly declared that they do not consider themselves part of the congregation. Ask this question, “Do I belong to this Church?” If your answer is “yes,” then with all its imperfections, continue to be faithful, be part of the solution, and do not contribute to its problems. If your answer is “no,” maybe it’s time to decide and be part of one.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, remind us to encourage one another and gather together as believers. Help us focus on growing to be agents of positive change. Even with its imperfections, may we love and commit to our church family. For those seeking a place of belonging, guide them, and for those already connected, empower them to be part of the solution. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
