TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL PASSAGE
Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Isaiah 41:10
For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
2 Timothy 1:7
DEVOTIONAL
by Elder Chris Beltran
The year was 391 A.D. the monk’s martyrdom moved the Christian emperor Honorarius, and it spurred him to issue a historic ban on gladiator fights. Never again in that coliseum did men kill each other for the entertainment of the crowd. This happened because one little man, Telemachus, with one tiny voice, dared to speak: “In the name of Christ, stop!”
Our coliseum today may be our workplace, university, or community. We are no longer equipped with swords but with smartphones, iPads, and laptops. We need to be ready and defend and fight our battles. But the game rules remain the same—survival of the smartest, fittest, and strongest. People try to win over the other and sometimes use different weapons to step on others—cheat, lie, bribe, slander, and fault-find others to get ahead of them. This world has become dark; it is filled with selfishness and unscrupulous practices.
Are we willing to be Telemachus today? We may feel alone in this battle. But remember, all it took was one little man with a small voice to stop the deadly games in the coliseum. Our voice may be small, but if the truth is spoken under Christ’s name, the name above every name, we can make a big difference. In the name of Christ, stop lying, cheating, slandering, complaining, and deceiving. Remember, the Lord promises us, “So do not fear, for I am with you.”
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, we find strength in Your assurance. In a world filled with darkness and challenges, help us to speak the truth in the name of Christ. Empower us to stand against lies, cheating, and deception. Though we may feel small, we trust in Your presence and promise that we need not fear. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
