TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL PASSAGE

Why do you complain, Jacob? Why do you say, Israel, “My way is hidden from the Lord; my cause is disregarded by my God”? Do you not know Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Isaiah 40:27–31

DEVOTIONAL

by Elder Chris Beltran

When Isaiah wrote the passage, Israel’s nation suffered a period of great distress as the Assyrians invaded and conquered their lands. Israel had nearly given up hope, thinking God had abandoned them, yet Isaiah drove his point home in Isaiah 40:27–31.

What did Isaiah mean when he said, “hope [wait] upon the Lord”? Does it mean we would have renewed strength and mount on wings like eagles?

We are to see ourselves not as independent but as dependent creatures, to rely upon something unseen, something greater than ourselves. It is not a weakness of the eagle that it depends on the power of the air currents. Instead, this dependence is its greatest strength. And as it waits for this current to arrive at a proper time, it allows the eagle to rise to great heights.

Remember, waiting on the Lord should not be passive. As we wait patiently on the Lord’s timing, let us continue to pray diligently, do the works He asks us to do faithfully, strengthen our relationship with Him, use our gifts to bless others, and be a good testimony of God’s goodness during our waiting time; knowing for sure, He has our best interest already planned out.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, we are reminded that just as the eagle waits for the right currents to soar to great heights, we, too, should depend on You and trust in Your timing. Waiting on You is not passive; it’s an active faith. May we pray diligently, serve faithfully, strengthen our relationship with You, use our gifts to bless others, and be shining examples of Your goodness during our waiting times. We trust that You have our best interests already planned out. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
