TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL PASSAGE
My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding—indeed, if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.
Proverbs 2:1–5
DEVOTIONAL
by Jennifer A. Sun
In our passage today, Solomon speaks of how to walk with God and walk on the path of wisdom. In these five verses, we see that walking with God is an active thing. We can go on listing down the action words stated here, and we realize that we cannot expect walking in wisdom to come naturally, with us sitting down on our chairs, hoping that we will learn what wisdom is all about. Solomon mentions a number of things that we are to do with God’s Word—to accept or receive, store it up, turn our ears, apply it with our hearts, cry out for knowledge, and seek and search for it (vv. 1–5). Walking with God is not a haphazard thing that we can do half-heartedly. It is a commitment to be in the moment and in His presence.
Obtaining wisdom is not a one-time thing. The pursuit of wisdom requires discipline, every moment of every day. It entails looking away from what is attractive but wrong to what may be unpopular but right. It calls for investing time in digging deep into Scripture rather than getting our fingers tired scrolling up to the next Facebook post. It is about making the right decision when faced with a dilemma, not because we are smarter than the rest, but because the Holy Spirit leads us.
Remember that the Lord Himself gives us the strength to seek His ways.
PRAYER
Lord, we pray for Your Holy Spirit to illuminate the path of wisdom before us and to fill our hearts with the knowledge of Your will. In all our ways, may we acknowledge You, knowing that You will direct our steps. In the name of Jesus, the embodiment of wisdom and truth, we pray. Amen.
