TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL PASSAGE
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
Galatians 5:22–23
DEVOTIONAL
by Jennifer A. Sun
While we cannot etch the word “Christian” on our foreheads, bearing the fruit of the Spirit will show people around us that we are different in a positive way.
In this world where there are many vices and bad habits, we are called to be set apart. We are called to show the character traits that are found in Christ’s nature. It is very easy to name the fruit of the Spirit. There are songs of various tunes to help us memorize them. But the real question lies in this: do we allow the fruit of the Spirit to grow in us? Inasmuch as we try to grow these fruits by ourselves, it will be an exercise in futility, except if we allow the Holy Spirit to grow them in our hearts. After all, the fruit of the Spirit is a by-product of having Christ in our hearts, knowing Him, loving Him, and obeying Him day after day. When we abide in Christ, then the fruit will naturally grow.
As the fruit of the Spirit manifests in our lives, we will then be able to fulfill the greatest commandment of the Lord: to love Him and to love our neighbors.
PRAYER
Lord, let the fruit of the Spirit be evident in our lives, a testimony to Your transforming work in us. Empower us to walk in step with the Spirit, bearing this fruit for Your glory and the benefit of others. In the name of Jesus, we pray, Amen.
