TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL PASSAGE

Please read Genesis 7:6-16

So they went into the ark to Noah, by twos of all flesh in which was the breath of life. Those that entered, male and female of all flesh, entered as God had commanded him, and the Lord closed it behind him.

Genesis 7:15-16

DEVOTIONAL

by Sandra Chua

I remember riding a roller coaster in Great America. The roller coaster personnel checked the U-shaped safety bar over the head and chest of each passenger. I was 13 years old at that time. I was tiny, and I felt that the bar did not hug me snuggly. But, being young, I kept quiet. Having tucked the safety bar over each passenger, the roller coaster personnel gave the signal for the ride to start. Seated beside my sister, I was excited as the car went higher and higher. When it went for the drop, I felt my behind float from the seat. I was so horrified, I held onto the U-bar, which was over my head. Anticipating the corkscrew ahead, I praised God I did not fall off my seat.

Before the flood, God made sure all the passengers were safe. God brought in the animals pair by pair. He did not let a drop of rainfall before everyone was safely inside. As promised, the rain came only after the Lord Himself shut the door of the ark and made sure Noah’s family and the animals were safely tucked inside. Now, Noah was ready for the year-long ride of his life.

In the same way, Jesus, having taken the penalty of sin on himself, died on the cross, and rose again on the third day, has tucked us safely in the book of life. For those of us who believe, no one can snatch us away from His hand.

REFLECTION

How has the Lord kept you safe from harm? How does knowing that it is God who protects you give you peace of mind? How has the Lord tucked you in safely after saving you from the penalty of sin and death?

PRAYER

Dear Lord Jesus, You are our Savior. Like how You tucked Noah and his family safely into the ark, Your sacrifice has sealed our salvation, and we have the hope of eternal life. In times of crisis, remind us whose hand closes the ark. May the peace that passes understanding guard our hearts and mind, in Jesus’ name, amen.
