DEVOTIONAL
by Sandra Chua
When God put it in my heart to serve Him, I volunteered to join the newsletter team, Voice of Jubilee, as a layout artist. I didn’t know a thing about the job, but the layout editor at that time graciously lent me a Corel Draw book. Thus, my ministry in Voice of Jubilee started.
God called Moses to speak to tell the Israelites that He had seen their affliction and that He would rescue them from the hands of the Egyptians. After that, he is to go to Pharaoh and ask Pharaoh to let the people go on a three-day journey to worship the Lord. Moses was reluctant. What if the people do not believe him? After all, his first attempt to save his fellow Israelites years before was met with cynicism (cf. Exodus 2:14). For proof, Exodus 4:2 states, “the Lord said to him, “What is that in your hand?” And he said, “A staff.” So, God used the staff to perform a miracle. Again, He asked Moses, Exodus 4:6, “Now put your hand into your bosom.” So he put his hand into his bosom, and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous like snow. So God used Moses’s staff, his hand, and water from the Nile—two things Moses already had and something easily accessible. Now Moses was equipped for the task.
Are you, like Moses, feeling inadequate or reluctant to do His work? Take heart. The Lord will equip you with everything good for doing His will. I always remember what Hudson Taylor said, “God’s work done in God’s way will never lack God’s supply. He is too wise a God to frustrate His purposes for lack of funds, and He can just as easily supply them ahead of time as afterward, and He much prefers doing so.”
REFLECTION
How has God equipped you for his service?
PRAYER
Dear heavenly Father, we are Your workmanship, and You created us to do good works, which You have prepared in advance for us to do. May You equip us with everything good for doing Your will, and may You work in us what is pleasing to You, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever, in Your most precious name, amen.
