TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL PASSAGE

My heart is not proud, Lord; my eyes are not haughty; I do not concern myself with great matters or things too wonderful for me. But I have calmed and quieted myself; I am like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child, I am content. Israel put your hope in the Lord both now and forevermore.

Psalm 131:1–3

DEVOTIONAL

by Sandra Chua

One of the simple joys of life is leaning on my mother’s shoulder, sleeping like a baby. I remember snuggling up to my mom and leaning my head on her soft, warm arms. I was happy, worry-free, and content. My mind is happily floating among the clouds. I’m safe. I’m comfortable. I know that I’m loved.

I remember Benjamin’s blessing, which is my favorite blessing among the twelve brothers. “Let the beloved of the Lord rest secure in him, for he shields him all day long, and the one the Lord loves rests between his shoulders” (Deut. 33:12).

How would you like to experience this wonderful contentment and security? This is possible when we hope in the Lord. When we trust in the Lord fully, we can learn contentment because we know God is with us. We know He will protect us from harm and provide for our needs, just like a mother does for her child; actually, even far more than what a mother can ever do for her child. Because God is always faithful. He is generous beyond our imagination. He is all-powerful and all-knowing.

So what are you waiting for? Cast all your cares upon Him who loves you best. Anyone who puts their trust in the Lord will never be put to shame.

REFLECTION

What worries will you lay upon the Lord’s feet today? How will you show your trust in Him?

PRAYER

Dear heavenly Father, thank You for Your everlasting love. We thank You for all the promises in the Bible that we can claim. Forgive us our unbelief and help us overcome our doubts that we may have peace like a weaned child with its mother, in Jesus’ name, amen.
