TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL PASSAGE
5 Some of his disciples were remarking about how the temple was adorned with beautiful stones and with gifts dedicated to God. But Jesus said, 6 “As for what you see here, the time will come when not one stone will be left on another; every one of them will be thrown down.”
7 “Teacher,” they asked, “when will these things happen? And what will be the sign that they are about to take place?”
8 He replied: “Watch out that you are not deceived. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am he,’ and, ‘The time is near.’ Do not follow them. 9 When you hear of wars and uprisings, do not be frightened. These things must happen first, but the end will not come right away.”
Luke 21:5–9
DEVOTIONAL
by Stephanie Reloj
Picture a magnificent church building, recently renovated and equipped with state-of-the-art technology, drawing admiration from all who see it. Despite its beauty and efficiency, news arrives that the building is slated for demolition. Yet, rather than despair, there is a sense of purpose and hope, for the demolition team plans to repurpose the site to spread the message of Jesus Christ to even more people. In this moment, we are reminded that while earthly structures may be temporary, the eternal significance lies in sharing the love and truth of Christ with others. As the building makes way for a new chapter of ministry, our hearts are filled with anticipation and faith in God’s greater plan.
In Luke 21:5–9, Jesus contrasts the fleeting nature of the physical temple with the eternal presence of Himself as the true embodiment of God’s presence among His people.
The disciples marveled at the grandeur and beauty of the temple building, failing to grasp its temporary nature compared to the eternal significance of Christ. While the temple served as a symbol of God’s dwelling place among His people, Jesus Himself was the ultimate fulfillment of this purpose, representing the true presence of God in human form.
Just as the temple would eventually be destroyed, Christ’s crucifixion and resurrection would usher in a new era where His presence would transcend the physical confines of a building. Through His death and resurrection, Jesus established a new covenant, offering salvation and eternal life to all who believe in Him.
Today, we are reminded that our faith is not anchored in earthly structures or religious rituals but in the person of Jesus Christ. He is the cornerstone of our faith, the eternal presence of God among us. As we marvel at the beauty of our places of worship, let us never lose sight of the true source of our salvation and hope—Jesus Christ, who stands as the eternal foundation of our faith.
REFLECTION
In a world marked by uncertainty and change, let us find comfort and assurance in the unchanging and eternal presence of Christ. May His love and grace sustain us through every trial and tribulation, reminding us that He is with us always, even to the end of the age.
PRAYER
Dear Lord, thank You for the eternal presence of Your Son, Jesus Christ, who stands as the cornerstone of our faith. Help us to fix our eyes on Him, especially in the midst of life’s challenges and uncertainties. May His love and grace be our anchor, sustaining us through every trial and tribulation. In His name, we pray, amen.
