TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL PASSAGE
Please read 1 Chronicles 29:8-16
Anyone who had precious stones gave them to the treasury of the temple of the Lord in the custody of Jehiel the Gershonite. The people rejoiced at the willing response of their leaders, for they had given freely and wholeheartedly to the Lord. David the king also rejoiced greatly.

DEVOTIONAL
by Elder Chris Beltran
This possessiveness is manifested usually when we are asked to give. I don’t know about you, but there are times when I hear my heart blurting out, “It’s mine!” For instance, the money we earn, we feel like it is ours because we worked for it. And the larger the amount, the harder it is to part with. The accolade and victories we receive is another example. With a few words of praise, it is not hard to convince us of our brilliance and genius. When an advertisement tells us that we deserve the best, the entitlement nerves are easily awakened.
Today, the passage says that the people rejoiced over the offerings, for they had given freely and wholeheartedly to the Lord, and King David was filled with joy. This reminds us that we should be like them in giving. 2 Corinthians 9:7b states, “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.”
So how do we do that? Verse 11 holds the key to joyful giving. It says, “Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is yours, O Lord, and this is your kingdom.” They knew it, and they acknowledged it. All that they have come from the Lord. Let us be reminded of the same.
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, we praise You! Help us show a heart of generosity and gratitude. Allow us to give willingly and joyfully, recognizing all we have comes from You. Guide us to steward our resources wisely for Your glory. We honor You, in Jesus’ name, amen.
