TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL PASSAGE
Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.
Proverbs 22:6
DEVOTIONAL
by Elder Chris Beltran
The family is where the greatest battles of spiritual warfare occur daily. Whoever controls the mind would be in control of the person. Our passage today reminds us of the importance of discipling our family. “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6). Psychology agrees with the Bible.
We see the value of discipling and teaching our children with God’s word in Deut. 6:5–9, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.”
It should not just be one time, or just teaching with words and lectures, but a lifestyle teaching, modeling as lessons are more easily caught than taught. Let’s all ask, “What kind of model am I to my family?”
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, we pray for wisdom and strength as we guide our children in Your ways, knowing that Your Word teaches us to train them in righteousness. Help us be living examples of Your love, grace, and truth daily. May our children embrace Your path and never depart from it. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
