TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL PASSAGE
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
Isaiah 55:8–9
DEVOTIONAL
by Elder Chris Beltran
When God seemingly closes the door, rest assured that He will open a window. Be steadfast, patient, pray without ceasing, and never stop trusting His heart.
A young lady was certain that God was calling her to be a missionary. She went to a Bible college, graduated, and prepared to leave for the mission field. A few weeks before she was to leave for a foreign land as a missionary, her only sister and her husband were tragically killed in a car accident. The couple left their four sons. She didn’t want to put them in an orphanage, so she cared for the children as though they were their own. But she was so devastated by not being able to go to the mission field.
Why did God let this tragedy happen? Some of us may ask, how could God let her down like that when she had the heart to serve as a missionary? The story has yet to finish. Because of her influence, all four children became missionaries. Instead of just the lady being a missionary, four ministers came out of her house.
Even if we have good intentions, God’s purpose is not always what we see. That is where our faith and trust come to light. Fix our eyes on Jesus—the author and perfecter of our faith. Do not concentrate on the seemingly unexplainable circumstances. God loves us so much—never ever forget that!
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, we trust in Your higher wisdom. When faced with closed doors, strengthen our patience and faith in Your plan. Help us see the purpose in unexpected turns. Even when we don’t understand, may we fix our eyes on Jesus, our ultimate guide. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
