TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL PASSAGE

Please read Psalm 23

And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:19

DEVOTIONAL

by Elder Chris Beltran

I was clearing some branches to move my car to higher grounds when a rogue branch twig poked me in the eye, causing me so much pain that I could not open my right eye. But God is good, a friend referred an ophthalmologist, and he initially prescribed antibiotic eye drops. True enough, there was a fungal infection and a huge corneal abrasion. However, as I religiously applied the hourly meds while praying for God’s mercy and the continuous care from my loving wife, the healing slowly kicked in, and the pain subsided. Friends followed up with me, prayed for me, and gave me pieces of advice. It really warmed my heart.

I learned things in this experience. First, we like to be in control and in charge. However, things beyond our control like the weather, accidents, and other people’s actions sometimes destroy our plans. This is where our faith in the Lord is needed.

In addition, we often realize the value of someone only when they are no longer with us. The same thing, I rarely gave thanks for my sight until it was taken from me. I learned to be grateful.

Lastly, life is a precious gift, not just our physical life but also our eternal life. Let us all receive this gift, both physical and eternal life, with gratitude in our hearts by thanking the Giver of life Himself, our Lord Jesus Christ.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, as we meditate on Psalm 23 and the promise in Philippians 4:19, we are reminded of the importance of faith in You when life takes unexpected turns. We often take our blessings for granted. Please help us be grateful for every gift, both physical and spiritual. Life in this world and the eternal life You offer is a precious gift. We receive it with gratitude, thanking our Lord Jesus Christ for His grace and mercy. In Your Son’s most precious name, amen.
