TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL PASSAGE
Please read Genesis 39
Joseph’s master took him and put him in prison, the place where the king’s prisoners were confined. But while Joseph was there in the prison, the Lord was with him; he showed him kindness and granted him favor in the eyes of the prison warden. So the warden put Joseph in charge of all those held in the prison, and he was made responsible for all that was done there. The warden paid no attention to anything under Joseph’s care, because the Lord was with Joseph and gave him success in whatever he did.

DEVOTIONAL
by Elder Chris Beltran
Genesis mentioned that Joseph was handsome and well-built. In today’s terms, Joseph may have been ripped with six-pack abs (Gen. 39:6). Because of this, Joseph’s master Potiphar’s wife noticed him and began to proposition him directly. “Come to bed with me!” she said to him. Perhaps she was so used to getting the things she desired and wanted, including the men within and outside their home.
Potiphar’s wife had no integrity when it came to being faithful to her husband. And certainly, she had no reservations about lying. She kept his cloak next to her until Potiphar came home, and she told him her story. After Potiphar hears the story, he’s outraged. He took Joseph and had him locked up where the king’s prisoners were kept. However, Potiphar may have had some doubts about his wife’s story. He could outright have Joseph killed but instead had him locked in prison.
Joseph was clearly wronged. He wanted to do what was right, yet he was wrongly accused and thrown into prison because of his conviction. But, while Joseph’s in the king’s prison, the Lord is with him again! And at the end, clinging to the promises of God, he was released from prison to become the prime minister of Egypt. What a journey!
This is a reminder that God sees. Even if others lie about us now, our righteousness will be rewarded in the age to come.
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, thanks for the example of Joseph, who remained faithful to You in difficult circumstances. Please help us to resist temptation and to trust in Your guidance in our lives. May we reflect Your love and righteousness in all we do. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
