TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL PASSAGE

But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship. Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.

Galatians 4:4–7

DEVOTIONAL

by Rev. Christopher Young

This passage shows us that God has given us His Holy Spirit, by whom we can relate to God. As our father, God sent the spirit of His son into our hearts. The spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.”

I wonder how you feel when you are relating to God as your father. Our earthly fathers probably did the best they could to raise us, considering that they have their own brokenness or struggles. However, they are not perfect. In fact, maybe at one time or another, we might have been disappointed in them.

No matter what our relationship has been with our earthly fathers, our perfect Father in Heaven desires to reach out to us. So call out to God in prayer. Call out to Him and say, “Abba Father!” Ask God to replace the emptiness in your heart with His fulfilling love and presence to replace that longing in your heart. God longs to embrace you and desires to spend time with you. He is not too busy for you. With His unconditional love and grace, may we choose to spend time with Him every day in prayer and reading of His word.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Holy Spirit, connecting us as Your children. In moments of disappointment, we turn to You, our unfailing source of love and grace. Replace our feeling of emptiness with Your boundless love. Strengthen our daily connection through prayer and Your Word. In Jesus’ name, we pray, amen.
