TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL PASSAGE
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. “Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.
Matthew 7:7-12
DEVOTIONAL
by Pastor Telo Flores
What’s the difference between the Prosperity Gospel and the true gospel of Jesus Christ? The Prosperity Gospel says God will give us all our heart’s desires if we ask for them. The true gospel says God will transform our hearts’ desires if we place our trust in Christ. When Christ calls us to “ask… seek… knock…” (v. 7), what we should be asking, seeking, and knocking for are the blessings that only a person who is spiritually alive in Christ would long for (see the Beatitudes in Matthew 5:3–12).
In Christ, we should pray to God, “your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10). Our deepest longing as Christians should be for our King to accomplish His will on earth. This is how Jesus Christ lived his life on earth, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work” (John 4:34). This is how he prayed in the face of his greatest challenge, “not my will, but yours, be done” (Luke 22:42). The power of the Holy Spirit transforms us to be conformed to this image. If we are in Christ, it is our heart’s desire to do the will of the Father; then we should ask God boldly for all that we need to overcome the world and honor Him with our lives.
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, guide our prayers to align with a heart transformed by Christ, seeking Your kingdom and will above all. Grant us the courage to boldly ask for what we need to overcome challenges and honor You. Transform us by Your Spirit to reflect the image of Christ, who lived to fulfill Your will. In Jesus’ name, we pray, amen.
