TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL PASSAGE

Please read Genesis 5:1-3

This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day when God created man, He made him in the likeness of God… When Adam had lived one hundred and thirty years, he became the father of a son in his own likeness, according to his image, and named him Seth.

Genesis 5:1 & 3

DEVOTIONAL

by Sandra Chua

People say all my daughters look like me. We look alike. We talk alike. We laugh alike. I know, and my daughters know that we are very different from each other. We have different likes, different hobbies, different personalities. Our beliefs, values, priorities, and opinions—most especially—are sometimes even on opposite ends. They favor a certain politician I do not like and vehemently dislike another someone that I respect.

In the same way, because God made us in His likeness, we resemble Him in many ways but are different in many other respects. We have the same features as we have a face, a body, and two feet, but our bodies, which are made of clay, are unlike His, which seems like light and metal combined, as described in Ezekiel and Revelation. Like Him, we are rational and able to think, although our mental capacity is limited, and we are unable to comprehend His wisdom. Like Him, we have emotions. We can be happy, sorry, or angry like God.

After sin entered, our likeness became more pronouncedly different. As Genesis 5:3 says, the children born to Adam were already born in Adam’s likeness. It means Seth was like his father, who had already fallen.

Our goal is to become more and more like Him, to reflect His glory, and to show the world how wonderful our God is. Romans 8:29 states, “For whom He foreknew, He also predestined [to be] conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.”

REFLECTION

As a Christian, do I resemble my Maker? Can people see Christ in me? Am I becoming more like Him each day? How can I become more like Him each day?

PRAYER

Lord, help me reflect Your goodness and let others see how good You are. Let me become a little more like You each day by loving more, understanding more, helping more, and forgiving more, in Jesus’ name, amen.
