TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL PASSAGE
22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. 24 For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. 25 But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.
James 1:23-25
DEVOTIONAL
by Dr. Nehemiah K. Sia
The Bible is like a mirror. It shows you who you are and it shows you what needs to change. If we are proud and don’t want to change, then we basically forget what God wants in our lives.
The Bible points out that we have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. We need the Savior, so we need to repent of our sins to receive Salvation. We need the Lord, so we need to surrender our lives to receive Love and Forgiveness. We cannot go on deciding to live on our own because that is detrimental to our growth as Christians, so we need the Mirror to show where we are and where we are going. The Bible shows us the paths of righteousness.
May we intentionally look at the Word and apply it in our lives daily so our lives can be transformed and we can overcome sin in our lives.
PRAYER
Lord Jesus Christ, help me meditate on Your Word, the Bible, and obey it. May we practice our faith with active works that, in our practice, show the world that it is more blessed to follow God’s Word than to ignore it. May we remember what we look like so that we can change for the better! In Your name, we pray, Amen.
