TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL PASSAGE
Please read Genesis 24:12-27
He said, “Blessed be the Lord, the God of my master Abraham, who has not forsaken His lovingkindness and His truth toward my master; as for me, the Lord has guided me in the way to the house of my master’s brothers.”
Genesis 24:27
DEVOTIONAL
by Sandra Chua
I used to plan out a treasure hunt for my youngest daughter every year on her birthday. I would hide simple gifts and clues to point her from one gift to the next. I would hide the gifts carefully, along with the clues, while she was away. My point is that the gifts and the clues were not there by accident. Everything was all planned out.
God had commanded Abraham to leave his country to settle in a new land. God swore to Abraham, saying, ‘To your descendants, I will give this land,’ Sarah had passed away, and Abraham was old. Abraham wanted to find a wife for Isaac from among his relatives. He knew by faith that God would send His angel before his servant to find a girl from among his brothers. If you read the story carefully, you will see how God placed everything in place for the success of the servant. When the servant arrived in the city of Nahor, the servant prayed to God for success. He asked for guidance to confirm the girl appointed for Isaac by showing him the circumstances he prayed for. He actually prayed for a girl who was kind enough not only to give him a drink but also for someone who would go the extra mile by watering the ten camels.
God answered his prayer exactly as he requested, and knowing that his prayers were answered, he promptly kneeled and worshiped God.
God is sovereign. He had sent his angel ahead of the servant. He had planned everything according to Abraham’s request and the servant’s prayer. It was not a coincidence. It was divine intervention. It was planned out.
REFLECTION
How do you see God’s hands in your life? How does knowing God is sovereign make you feel?
PRAYER
Dear heavenly Father, nothing takes You by surprise. You know the end from the beginning. Yet we can lift up our prayers to You, and amazingly, You listen. Help us rely on You not with a feeling of resignation but with a feeling of confident peace that Your ways are higher than ours and that Your love is greater as well; in Jesus’ name, we pray, amen.
