In the middle of folding joss money, the Chinese paper money burned for the dead; I quipped, “We do not need to do this. Heaven will have streets of gold, and the foundations of the city walls will be precious gems!” My sister-in-law seemed surprised and asked, “How do you know that?” To which I answered, “The Bible says so!”

God revealed to Joseph what will happen in the future. Why? Was it to irritate his brothers, who were already jealous of him? Isaiah 46:10 I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say, ‘My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.’ God was revealing future events. For what purpose? I believe it was to reveal His power and His sovereignty.

Joseph was seventeen when he had two dreams. He dreamt that he was tying up bundles of grains with his brothers, and his brothers’ bundles of grains bowed down to his bundle. The Second dream was that the sun, moon, and eleven stars bowed down before me!” They were prophetic dreams in that God was showing them what was to come. Spoiler alert: the dream comes to pass in Genesis 42:6, “Now Joseph was the ruler over the land; he was the one who sold to all the people of the land. And Joseph’s brothers came and bowed down to him with their faces to the ground.”

He gave the dream to Joseph to show who was in control of the future. Today, He has given us the Bible to see what the future holds for those who love and do not love Him. Just as we have a glimpse of golden heavenly streets and gigantic pearl gates in heaven, we know that God will be victorious in the end, and we will be with Him forever.
