TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL PASSAGE
Please Read Ephesians 3
For this reason I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus for the sake of you Gentiles—Surely you have heard about the administration of God’s grace that was given to me for you, that is, the mystery made known to me by revelation, as I have already written briefly. In reading this, then, you will be able to understand my insight into the mystery of Christ, which was not made known to people in other generations as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to God’s holy apostles and prophets. This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus.
Ephesians 3:1-6
DEVOTIONAL
by Rev. Dr. Nehemiah Sia
The Greek word for stewardship in this passage is oikonomos, from which we derived the English word for economy. This stewardship, also known as management and dispensation, is given by God as a means of grace revealed to us through the Church, One Big Family! In the economy of God, He takes care of His children, both Jews and Gentiles, who believe in His Gospel of peace and reconciliation. Usually, in His economy, we have so many demands and needs, while God richly supplies all our needs in Christ Jesus. We, therefore, need to humble ourselves before our Head, who is Christ our Lord, as He dispenses His gifts to us so we can serve Him in mercy, truth, justice, and faith! May God’s dispensation of Christ’s grace be given to us as a means towards holiness and righteousness by the power of the Holy Spirit.
When we are entrusted with the Gospel, we experience His love and truth made manifest through the Church. The manifold wisdom of God is made known to us by this means of grace as we have boldness and access with confidence through our faith in Christ. So let us not lose heart but be of good courage, for the Lord is with us both now and forevermore.
This love of Christ compels us to persevere and to love until the end. Let us persevere under trials and temptations. May we abstain from fleshly desires by saying NO to temptations. May we say YES to God by living honorable lives in doing good with the love of Christ for God’s glory!
PRAYER
Lord Jesus Christ, thank You for giving us this means of grace, all of us, through Your dispensation of the Church. We cannot live by our own works and merit because it is by Your empowering grace that sustains us each day as we live for Your glory alone. Please, Lord, purify our hearts so we can serve You in holiness and humility. Guide us, dear Lord, in paths of righteousness as we dispense from Your redeeming and amazing grace to others as well. In Your name, we pray, Amen.
