TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL PASSAGE
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Matthew 6:33–34
DEVOTIONAL
by Stephanie Reloj
We might argue that worrying and anxiety are a normal part of our life. How can we not do it? Well, Jesus provides us with a powerful antidote to worry and anxiety: seeking first the kingdom of God. Rather than allowing ourselves to be consumed by concerns about our material needs, Jesus invites us to shift our focus to something far greater—the kingdom of God and His righteousness.
It’s a kind gesture from our Heavenly Father to give us a constructive task rather than simply commanding us not to worry. We are wired to be doers, and seeking God’s kingdom gives us a purposeful direction for our actions and concerns.
Seeking the kingdom of God first involves prioritizing the things of God above all else. It means aligning our hearts and lives with God’s will and purposes, pursuing righteousness, holiness, and obedience to His word. As we seek after God and His kingdom, we can trust Him to take care of our every need.
Prayer, reading the Bible, and serving others are all tangible ways to seek God’s kingdom in our daily lives. We can confidently pray for our needs, knowing that our Heavenly Father hears us and cares for us deeply. We can immerse ourselves in His word, allowing it to shape our thoughts and actions. And we can serve others with love and compassion, trusting that God will provide for us as we seek to honor him.
REFLECTION
Take time to reflect on your priorities. Are you seeking the kingdom of God first in your life, or are you allowing worries about material needs to dominate your thoughts and actions? How can you actively seek first the kingdom of God in your daily routines and decision-making processes?
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, thank You for the assurance that when we seek Your kingdom and righteousness first, You will take care of us. Help us to prioritize Your kingdom above all else in our lives, trusting in Your provision and faithfulness. May our hearts be fully devoted to You, and may our lives reflect the beauty of Your kingdom to the world around us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
