TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL PASSAGE

Please read Psalm 23

The Lord is my Shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul.

He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.

Psalm 23:1–3

DEVOTIONAL

by Dr. Nehemiah K. Sia

Usually, Psalm 23 is spoken at countless funeral services. Because of the timeless truth that the LORD is the One who takes care of us even though we walk through the valley of the shadow of death, and He is the One who guides us throughout our lives, and there is an eternal life of heaven promised to those who trust in the Good Shepherd for their salvation. In fact, the LORD is the Good Shepherd because, in the midst of the struggles of life, we know He is there to sustain us and see us through every valley, every mountain and even the storms of life!

Our Good Shepherd can lead us to still waters and green pastures because He knows we need sustenance as we face all kinds of trials. Yes, He is our Provider, and we shall not want. Being a shepherd is hard because he needs to ensure the well-being of his sheep. How many sheep are in the whole world? Many have trusted in the LORD and come to faith in Him throughout the ages and in different countries!

He restores our souls. Not only is He our Provider, but He is our Protector because even in the face of death, we fear no evil; His rod and His staff comfort us. He even prepares a table before our enemies and anoints our heads with oil. What love and favour in our lives. Not only is He our Provider and Protector, but He is our Powerful Rewarder! Indeed, surely goodness and mercy will follow us all the days of our lives, and we will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

REFLECTION

The sheep listens to the Shepherd’s voice. Are we listening to the Good Shepherd? May we listen carefully to the voice of the LORD each day and follow His ways.

PRAYER

Lord Jesus Christ, thank You for sustaining us when we are alive here on earth. You are the Good Shepherd and thank You so much for taking care of us even when we feel tired and weak. Help us, oh Lord, to trust in You and to obey Your Word because Your Voice is what we need to hear for guidance and direction in our lives and ministries! In Your Name, we pray, Amen.
