Why should our soul thirst for the living God like the deer pants for streams of water? Deers select high nutritional contents that are easily digestible, like foliage of grasses that are processed in their small four-chambered stomach, drinking in short intervals to replenish their water supply.<\/span><\/p>\n

In contrast, camels can withstand long periods without any external source of water. Some species of camel can drink as seldom as once every 10 days, even under very hot conditions, and can lose up to 30% of their body mass due to dehydration.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Instead of panting for the word of God every day, many Christians take in God\u2019s word like camels every so often, perhaps, only when there is spare time to fill in the gaps of a busy schedule. Most of the time, there is no desire to replenish their Scripture tank.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Reading God\u2019s word becomes optional on a \u201cneed to\u201d basis. When they are running on almost empty, or when troubles come, they quickly scramble to flip the pages of the Bible, frantically searching for God\u2019s direction. Like the camel, they quickly drink volumes of His word, asking God to be their strength and their present help in times of trouble, their Rock of salvation, their shelter, and protection from the enemy or the dreaded disease or financial troubles to sustain their tired and weary souls.<\/span><\/p>\n

PRAYER<\/strong><\/p>\n

Heavenly Father, help us thirst for Your living Word like a deer who pants for water. Forgive us for neglecting it and only turning to You in times of trouble. May we seek nourishment and guidance from Your Word daily, finding strength and refuge in You alone. We pray this in Jesus’ name, amen.<\/span><\/p>\n
