TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL PASSAGE<\/strong><\/p>\n And when they came to a place called Golgotha, which means Place of a Skull,<\/span> they gave Him wine mixed with bile to drink; and after tasting <\/span>it<\/span><\/i>, He was unwilling to drink <\/span>it<\/span><\/i>.<\/span> And when they had crucified Him, they divided His garments among themselves by casting lots.<\/span> And sitting down, they <\/span>began<\/span><\/i> to keep watch over Him there.<\/span> And above His head they put up the charge against Him which read, “THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.”<\/span><\/p>\n Matthew 27:33\u201337<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n <\/figure>\n by Stephanie Reloj<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a German pastor and theologian, stood against the Nazi regime during World War II. His resistance to Hitler’s policies led to his imprisonment and eventual execution. Bonhoeffer remained steadfast in his faith, even as he faced immense suffering and death. His writings and actions reflected his deep commitment to Christ, mirroring the sacrificial love Jesus demonstrated on the cross. Bonhoeffer once wrote, “When Christ calls a man, he bids him come and die.” He understood that following Jesus might require great personal sacrifice, including enduring persecution and even death. Bonhoeffer’s life and martyrdom inspire us to live out our faith courageously, even in the face of severe opposition.<\/span><\/p>\n Nailed to the cross, Jesus endured immense suffering and humiliation. Above His head, a sign read “King of the Jews,” mocking His divine kingship. The soldiers gambled for His clothing, and the crowd jeered at Him. Yet, Jesus willingly endured this agonizing death for our salvation, embodying the ultimate sacrifice and love.<\/span><\/p>\n Jesus’ crucifixion teaches us about the cost of true discipleship and the depth of God’s love for us. As we reflect on His sacrifice, we are called to live in a manner worthy of His gift. This means embracing humility, showing love to others, and standing firm in our faith, even when it is difficult.<\/span><\/p>\n In our daily lives, we may not face physical crucifixion, but we encounter various forms of trials and suffering. By remembering Jesus’ example, we can find strength and hope to endure our own challenges. We are reminded to bear our own crosses, offering our struggles and sacrifices in union with His.<\/span><\/p>\n Additionally, we can honor Jesus’ sacrifice by advocating for those who suffer injustice and by standing against evil in our world. We are called to be His hands and feet, showing love and compassion to those in need.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n \n <\/span><\/p>\n REFLECTION<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n How often do we reflect on the magnitude of Jesus’ suffering and what it means for our lives? Do we recognize the depth of His love and sacrifice when we face our own challenges?<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n <\/p>\n PRAYER<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Heavenly Father, we thank You for the incredible sacrifice of Jesus, who endured the agony and humiliation of the cross for our salvation. Help us to never take this gift for granted. Give us the strength to face our own trials with faith and courage, remembering the depth of Your love for us. May we live each day in a way that honors Your sacrifice, showing love and compassion to those around us. Guide us to stand against injustice and to be Your light in a dark world. In Jesus’ name, we pray.
